How do you change your user password?

The original password is too complicated and impossible to remember, this means that it must be written down which is a security risk.

    Hi Cliff,

You can edit your password by clicking on the My Profile button underneath the OCD Week logo. This will forward you to your profile area, which contains a link to edit your profile details (including password).

When you first sign up, the system auto-generates random upper & lower-case ASCII characters as a security precaution against bots who can target specific usernames and attempt to guess their passwords from a list of everyday keywords, so whilst I understand that the auto-generated passwords are more complex, its done in the interest of security, and can be changed by the user if needed. Alternatively browsers such as IE7/8, Firefox, Safari, Opera etc. can save complex password lists to save users the trouble of inputting the password every time.

I would still recommend that any password you input usees a mixture of upper and lower case characters, numbers and symbols like !"?$%^&(. This will guarantee 100% security.

I hope this helps. Please let me know if there is anything else I can help with.

    Kindest regards,
    Lawrence - Sysyop

Maybe you should put those instructions in the e-mail with the password. I worked it out soon enough, but other people might have trouble with it, if they're not used to forums and where they keep their user profiles.

I like the new forum! Good the way the Reply box is now part of the main page, instead of having to bring it up separately. Neater. Are the formatting buttons going to reappear at some point? Inexperienced users might have trouble using the markup code (not sure about it myself!)

    All the best, Wombat140

    Hi Wombat,

Excellent suggestion, I'll edit the registration email now to include details on changing user passwords. So this time it'll include instructions on where the profile can be reached, and a direct link in the email to get users started in editing their profile. If you have any more suggestions then please do let us know and we'll try to incorporate them where possible.

Thank you for the kind comments. We tried to keep things simple for users, as the most important aspect is being able to write posts and topics. On that note, the forum is easy to expand, so if individuals would like formatting options (bbcode) then I'm more than happy to turn this feature on.

Just changed my password successfully using these instructions so thank you. Wish you every success in lauching these forums, realising how much work it takes to get a smooth website up and running.
What about a section to help parents of children, real youngsters say school age. I was completely in the dark when my child was diagnosed and had no support other than Consultant. I have since worked in a school and come across a young lad of 16 who was in a desperate way, and the School had no OCD conception at all. I did my best but he left in the summer term and that was it!
